A heartwarming story like the one I am about to tell you is proof that it’s never too late nor are you ever too old to document your love. This love story is very dear to me. It’s like the kind of love stories we read about in romance novels. These high school sweethearts, my grandparents, are a perfect example of why documenting your love has no age limit.

Oftentimes, we get caught up in the day to day and before we know it, 10 years have gone by. We live busy lives. Some of us are raising children, working long hours, and coming home to do it all over again, day after day. It’s no secret that most of us wake up, eat, sleep, and repeat. The years go by quickly.

One thing that will never change is the importance of having photographs of the ones you love. The value of photographs only increases over time. Some day, you may be reaching for a photograph of someone you miss. That is, afterall, one of the first things we do when we miss someone.

I ask you, “When was the last time your grandparents had professional photographs taken?” My guess is, it’s been a long time. Once kids are grown and moved out, parents oftentimes don’t continue having family photos taken. There’s a good chance it’s been 40+ years since your parents or grandparents have had a photo session together.

Jimmy and JoAnn are the sweetest example of why getting your grandparents behind the camera is so very important. They were high school sweethearts who reconnected many years later when I was middle school age. They spent their days traveling, eating good food, and loving each other with all they had.

We knew a few years ago that Jimmy’s health was starting to decline. It quickly became apparent to me that they had never had professional pictures taken with one another. I knew one day these photographs would mean more to them than almost anything else.

My plan was to tell them both to dress up one evening for my mothers birthday dinner we were having. I knew neither of them would want to take up my time if I told them what it was really all about. So I surprised them after dinner during golden hour when I whipped out my camera. We went to the front yard and I told them we were taking pictures.

To my surprise, they were so excited about this. The moment I started taking pictures, it was as if they were the only two people in the world. Jimmy’s eyes lit up when he looked into my grandmother’s eyes. She was giddy the whole time.

These photographs took all of 10 minutes and they are still to this day some of my very favorite photos I’ve ever taken. Before Jimmy passed, he kept these pinned to a bulletin board by his bedside at the nursing home. He always told us that they were his favorite. Now, my grandmother clings to these and all the fond memories they shared together.

I share this story not to make you sad, but to remind you of why documenting your love has no age limit. Love stories like these are rare and beautiful. Your grandparents deserve to update their photos together. They may be older, but they’re also much wiser. Their beauty and love has stood the test of time and their photos will too.

Document who they are today. These photographs will not only be important to them, but also to you. I now cling to these more than I ever have before. I also can’t wait until the day I get to share their love story with my children. These photographs will make all of my stories of them come to life.

Friends, I can’t express to you how incredibly grateful you will be to have photographs of your grandparents in their older age. The stories of their life and time will be forever captured so delicately. Their legacy will live on generation after generation.

If you’ve teared up reading this, there’s a good chance you’ve realized how much you want updated photographs of your grandparents. Please know that they’re never too old, too frail, or too difficult for this dream to come true. Reach out and we can plan something very special for them. You will never regret having photographs like these to hold onto. Your love can always be documenting in a place you feel most comfortable instead of on location.
